    Gabions are constructed from high-strength, corrosion-resistant, and ductile low-carbon steel wire or PVC-coated wire, woven mechanically into a durable mesh. This mesh forms the box-shaped structure known as a gabion box. In compliance with ASTM and EN standards, the diameter of the low-carbon steel wire typically ranges from 2.0 to 4.0 mm, depending on specific project requirements. Gabion wire features a minimum tensile strength of 38 kg/m², while the metal coating weight usually exceeds 245 g/m². Edge wires are generally thicker than the mesh wires, and the twisted double wire sections are designed with a minimum length of 50 mm to ensure protection of both metal and PVC coatings.

    The flexible design of gabion structures allows them to conform to slope variations without damage, providing superior stability and safety compared to rigid structures. Gabions offer excellent anti-scouring performance, capable of withstanding water velocities up to 6 m/s. Their permeable structure enables natural groundwater filtration and sediment deposition, promoting the settlement of suspended particles and silt within the stone fill.
