Hexagonal Stone Filled Cage - Galvanized Gabion Basket
Product Description
A hexagonal gabion is made from hexagonal mesh woven from low-carbon steel wire or plastic-coated steel wire. This weld-free structure is created through a double-twisted process, providing high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and water permeability. Mechanically woven or hot-dip galvanized, the double-twisted section is typically at least 50 mm long to ensure structural stability. Mesh wire diameters usually range from 2–4 mm, with edge wires 0.5–1 mm thicker. Common aperture sizes include 60×80 mm and 80×100 mm. Hexagonal gabions are widely used for riverbank protection and embankment reinforcement, capable of withstanding water velocities up to 6 m/s. Their permeable structure encourages vegetation growth, supporting both slope protection and ecological restoration. They are also employed in highway and railway retaining walls, with construction heights reaching up to 40 meters.

What can Gabions and River Mattresses be used for?
Gabions are wire mesh boxes often used in combination with geotextiles to reduce water velocity, prevent soil erosion, and retain soil particles. Flat gabions are commonly employed in civil engineering, particularly for roadway drainage structures. Larger gabion mattresses are designed to cover extensive areas of riverbeds, effectively preventing erosion. This method offers a unique solution that combines efficient drainage management with environmentally friendly benefits.
Double Twisted Mesh Gabion Mattresses Advantage
• Flexibility
Mattress gabions are typically made from heavy-duty galvanized or PVC-coated wire to ensure excellent corrosion protection. We manufacture gabions using high-quality galvanizing, with an optional 0.5 mm PVC coating for hexagonal woven wire mesh materials.
• Strength
Mesh wire breaking strength;
Mesh wire tensile strength;
Pull apart resistance strength
Chemical and UV weather resistance, corrosion resistance of the mesh.
• Durability
The rigid modular design provides structural stability and long-lasting durability. Our materials are quality-assured, conform to China’s national standards, and are suitable for a wide range of applications.

Q&A
What is the lifetime of Gabions?
The lifetime value of gabions is generally quite high, making them a cost-effective solution for many long-term applications. Typically, gabions can be used between 35 to 50 years, and sometimes even longer, depending on the environmental conditions and the materials' quality. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address any issues, such as corrosion or structural weakness, thereby extending their service life.
Are Gabions difficult to install?
Gabions do not require any specialized equipment or skills for installation. This ease of assembly and flexibility in material sourcing make gabions a practical option for remote or difficult-to-access locations, making Gabions relatively easy to install.
Are Gabions easy to maintain?
Once installed, gabions do not require regular upkeep and are generally low-maintenance, but regular checking and minor repairs can be necessary to ensure their continued effectiveness and longevity.
