I. Required Tools and Materials

1.Tools
1.Protective Gloves: Ensure hand safety during the operation and prevent injuries.
2.Wire Cutters: Used for cutting the spiral wires and dealing with the excess parts.
3.Tape Measure: Accurately measure the dimensions of the required materials.

2.Materials
1.Gabion Panels: Construct the main structure of the gabion basket.
2.Spiral Wires or Binding Wires: Used to connect the gabion panels and fix all the components.
3.Corner Straps (Optional): Enhance the structural stability of the gabion basket, especially suitable for thinner panels.
4.Stones: Fill the gabion basket to achieve its intended function.

II. Making Steps

1.Precisely Calculate the Material Quantity
1.Calculation of Spiral Wires: Each gabion basket has a cube structure, composed of 6 panels of the same size. Therefore, there are a total of 12 connecting joints. Each joint is set to be 100 centimeters long. So, you need to prepare 12 spiral wires, each also 100 centimeters long, to fix all the joints.

2.Meticulously Prepare the Gabion Panels
1.Get all the gabion panels ready. For a standard cube-shaped gabion basket, since all its sides are uniform, there is no special requirement for the position of the panels during the initial preparation. However, if you are making a gabion basket of a different size, carefully match the base and the lid, the front and rear panels, and ensure that the two side panels are of the same size, laying a foundation for the subsequent assembly.

3.Connect the Initial Panels
1.The First Step with Safety in Mind: First, select the base panel and one of the side panels, and use a spiral wire to connect them closely together, starting the assembly of the gabion basket.

4.Complete the Connection between the Base and the Sides
1.Continue the operation from the previous step. In the same way, successively connect the other side panel, the front panel, and the rear panel to the base panel, gradually building up the main frame of the gabion basket.

5.Fix the First Vertical Corner

1.Stabilize the Corner Structure: Fold and align the two adjacent panels at the corner, and use a spiral wire to connect them by twisting from top to bottom to ensure the firmness of the corner structure.

6.Fix Each Vertical Corner One by One
1.Refer to the operation method of the previous step, and use spiral wires to connect the remaining vertical corners one by one. During this process, do not install the lid first to facilitate the subsequent filling of stones.

7.Trim the Excess Parts
1.Neat Finishing: If any spiral wire extends too long from the gabion basket, use wire cutters to cut off the excess part. Subsequently, use pliers to fold the end of the spiral wire downward to avoid the sharp part from being exposed, which may cause potential safety hazards, and make the appearance of the gabion basket more regular.

8.Preliminarily Fix the Lid
1.Reserve Space for Filling: Place the lid on the top of the gabion basket, and first fix one side of it with a spiral wire, leaving an operation space for filling stones subsequently.

9.Optional: Install Corner Straps to Strengthen the Structure
1.Enhance Stability: If you use thinner panels to make the gabion basket, in order to prevent it from expanding and deforming during subsequent use, you can consider installing corner straps. Hook the corner straps symmetrically on the fourth wire of each corner and vertically on every third hole to enhance the overall structural strength of the gabion basket.

10.Fill with Stones
1.Start filling the self-made gabion basket with stones. It should be noted that during the filling process, the lid is only fixed on the back, keeping the other parts open for convenient operation.

11.Seal the Lid After Filling
1.Complete the Making: After the gabion basket is filled, use spiral wires to firmly fix all sides of the lid. Finally, use pliers to fold the ends of the spiral wires inward, completing the production of the entire gabion basket.
